Attached is a ScreenPrint of the ISTA SSP wiring diagram for your 2010 E91. The Switch Signal wire for the Tailgate Latch is Grey/Brown, and for the Rear Window is Brown/Yellow. The Convention used in SSP diagrams is the switch is shown in normal position. I presume that is latched, both for Window and Tailgate.
A manager from BMW NA called to inform me that the bottom three wires on the rear window defroster on my 2003 530i are non-functional, they do not heat, and are there for "cosmetics" only. Keep bugging them! The antenna amplifier thing in the right rear C-pillar is the next step.

Your Climate Control System has EIGHT (8) different "Flap Motors" which move FLAPS to change air flow path. Those Flaps not only change (1) what ducts air is supplied from, such as Defrost Flap, where air is directed to Windshield, and Footwell Flap, where air is directed to both footwells, but also (2) "Mixed Air Flaps", one on right, and one on left, controlled by the separate Driver side

Need help with the rear defroster. I get an error related rear heated window relay. The fuse is not blown, tested each line on the rear window with the volt meter and I see 14v on each line, but it's not defrosting. Looked at the electrical diagram and looks like the relay is built-in into the junction box under the glove compartment! WHY ??
375 posts · Joined 2018. #3 · Jun 28, 2020. Both failures are typically a wiring design fault that breaks the wires and leads to failure of the electronics back there up in the hinge area. The rear window release could also likely be the button itself on the rear wiper, as that's a common problem too.
The left turn signal is not functioning for the headlight and the rear taillight. Does the malfunction check notice just say that for signal bulb failures or is there something causing the lights to not work? Could be the 2nd stage brake light bulb which only comes on with heavy braking or a poor connection on one of the lamp holders but at least you can narrow down once you have the code. ive never noticed a code its just a bulb symbol ill try that when i finish work at 2pm. Water bottle off with a 10mm so you can get to the 2 pumps. Pop them off and remove filter. The top pump is for the headlight washers-this filter was'nt too gunged up but the bottom pump for the windscreen was. Clean it out and job done.
relative4 Discussion starter · Oct 16, 2017. I have a 335xi E90 from 2007/06. The rear window defroster is not working. Infuriatingly, the K13 relay is not removable from the A4010 behind-glove junction box after 2007/03, at least not without removing the junction box. I've verified there is no voltage at the F46 fuse.
Mine is E91 (wagon/estate) and the quarter window is bonded in with sealant whereas I think the E90/saloon one just bolts in & out. I 'think' I have it figured though maybe now. As long as I assemble it in the correct order (all the trims & panels/covers are currently removed).
